The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
The two graphs illustrate the proportion of households that owned electrical appliances and how much time take each household to do housework over the period of nearly 100 years, starting from 1920.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the percentage of households using electrical appliances while the opposite was true for the amount of time that was spent on doing housework.
In the beginning, comparing with 0% in the ratio of vacuum cleaners consumption, that of refrigerators were higher by 30%. Both these figures increased significantly 100% in 2000 before remaining stable until the end of the period. Although standing at the highest position in the beginning, at 40%, the proportion of households owned washing machines witness gradual fluctuation before reaching around 70% at the end, which is lower than two other appliances.
Turning to the other graph, households spent a huge amount of time doing housework in 1920, at 50%. This figure declined remarkably to nearly 15% in 1980 and then keeping instant in the next 20 years before continuing fall minimal to 10% in 2019.
