The first line chart illustrates the average monthly expenditure of British parents on their children's sports reported every two years from 2008 to 2014. The second one gives data about the number of children who participated in football, athletics, and swimming at the same time.
Overall, more money was spent on children's sports, therefore, more children got involved in these 3 types of sports. Specifically, football welcomed more young players than athletics or swimming.
At the first glance, in 2008, parents in England spent about 20 pounds every month on their children's sports activities. The figure increased steadily in the next 6 years and ended up with 32 pounds per month in 2014.
At the second glance, participation in football hit a difference as it was never lower than 7.5 million children engaging in this fantastic game. From 2008 to 2014, the figure was not stable but rose from about 8 to 9 million. In terms of athletics, in the first 2 years, the number of children who joined was extremely low (around 0.5 million). However, it skyrocketed to 5 million in the next 2 years with a little decrease of 0.5 million in the last 2 years. Throughout the whole period, the young participants in swimming surged stably from about 2 to 4 million.
