Essay topics:

Asteroids are large space objects made of rock and ice. There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids in our solar system. Though we often hear ideas about establishing colonies of humans to live and work on our Moon or our neighboring planet, Mars, some think that sending people to an asteroid would actually be the best colonization option for a number of reasons Low Gravity To begin with, asteroids are often much smaller than planets, so they have lower gravity.
When landing a spaceship, the craft would not be pulled as strongly or as forcefully toward the asteroid's surface, making the landing safer than landing on the Moon or Mars; it would also allow a spacecraft to carry much more equipment needed to set up the colony. It would also be easier for the spacecraft to take off again, so the spaceship would need to carry considerably less fuel for the trip back to Earth. Mining Valuable Metals Next some asteroids are rich in valuable elements and precious metals that are relatively rare on Earth, such as gold and platinum.
An asteroid colony would be extremely profitable and a good source of these raw materials. The colonists or businesses sponsoring them could more than pay for the cost of their support by mining minerals and sending them back to Earth. Easy to Reach Finally, asteroids are a good option for colonization because some of them would be very easy to reach. There are a number of asteroids that periodically come within or near Earth's orbit Some of them actually get closer to Earth than our Moon. So these asteroids would be much easier and more affordable to get to and get back from than a planet like Mars, which would require a two-year trip in each direction.

Both the reading and lecture are about traveling and living on asteroids. The reading passage provides three hypotheses regarding the possibility of colonizing on asteroids. However, the lecturer disagrees and challenges each of these theories.
To begin with, the passage claims that asteroids are much smaller than planets, which means that they have lower gravity; hence, humans can go and colonize them. Nevertheless, the lecturer contradicts this idea by pointing out that colonizing asteroids is not practical at all. Furthermore, he states that although they have lower gravity, they are harmful to our health, that is, colonizing asteroids causes some dangerous problems, such as bone-density problems and muscle loss.
Secondly, the reading passage mentions that landing on asteroids is safer than landing on the Moon or Mars. This notion is substantiated by the fact that we can take more equipment with ourselves on the spacecraft, and it is easier to take off again, with the result that the spacecraft uses less fuel. Yet, the lecturer challenges the argument found in the reading passage by revealing that it seems right, but it will cost a fortune leading us to make less profit. Moreover, he notes that there is no guarantee to come back to Earth, and if we can bring a lot of precious stones with us, they will lose their worth because of their abundance.
The third and last point found in the article is that bringing precious stones from asteroids is so profitable. In the article, it is noted that because some asteroids are close to Earth, we can reach them easily. On the other hand, the lecturer rebuts this theory by explaining that although it seems we can reach them easily, it is difficult for us to return to Earth easily. Moreover, in contrast to the passage, he asserts that it is not close to Earth all the time, i.e., it is not close to Earth all the time, which means that sometimes are closer and sometimes are farther; thus, if we can reach them, the far distance from Earth can be a challenge for us.
