The given bar chart illustrates the percentage of population who can not read and write in 6 different areas regarding sex in 2000.
Overall, it is obvious that women accounted for the higher proportion of illiteracy rates in both examined regions. Furthermore, while South Asia was the leading area in terms of the rate of disabled people in two genders in the total population, the opposite was true for developed economics.
According to the chart, about 56% of the number of South Asian females can not read or write, whereas the figure for the other sex was only one-second in comparison with the female group. However, the reversed pattern was seen in developed nations with the illiteracy rates were nearly zero in both genders.
For the remaining regions, the year 2000 recorded the high proportion in the number of people who are unable to read and write in Arab States and Sub-Saharan Africa. The figures were approximately 50% for male category and 30% for the other one in two mentioned countries. Contrary to this, the rates of illiteracy for men and women in East Asia/Oceania were relatively low with 20% and 9% relatively. Additionally, the gap between both genders who had difficulties in writing and reading in America/ Caribbean was modest with around 1%.
