The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram illustrates the process of growing and the habitats of a large fish named salmon. Overall, salmon’s life cycle includes three different stages of development, from a fry, a smolt to an adult one.
Regarding the first picture, salmon lay their eggs between small pebbles and reeds, in the upper river, which has a slow flow for approximately from 5 to 6 months. Then little salmon hatch from eggs, which are called fry, and have a length of 3 to 8 centimeters.
In the second stage, the fry move downstream to the lower river where it has faster flow, and live there for nearly 4 years. After that duration, the fry become bigger ones, called smolt, increase their length up to 12-15 centimeters, and then they change the living habitat to the large sea.
Finally, in the third stage, the adult salmon which had around 5 years living in the sea, became a large fish approximately 70 to 75 centimeters long. They will return to their original place of birth for laying eggs to begin a new life cycle.
