Essay topics:

The pie charts below show the average household expenditures in a country in 1950 and 2010.

The pie charts depict the percentage of household spending in a country in 1950 and 2010. In general, each chart is separated into 6 categories. It is easy to see that there are 2 notable shifts in the 2 charts including the decline in the housing expenditure and the increase in the food and other expenditure.
To begin with, in 1950, housing expenditure ranked first with a staggering number of 72,1%, followed by food spending made up only 11,2 %. However, in 2010, there was a sudden dive in the expenditure on housing (at 22%). Furthermore, it is evident that food expenditure received a surge at 34% ( 3 times more than that in 1950).
Moreover, the spending on transportation in 1950 was quite low at only 3,3% but in 2010 this figure started to rise to 14% which was 4 times more than that in the past. Not only transportation but also the expenditure on health care was doubled in 2010 at 4,5%. Spending on education received a slight decrease from 6.6% to 6,3% in 2010. The remaining had a surge in 2010 at 19,2%.
