The diagram below shows the life cycle of a salmon, from egg to adult fish.
The illustration highlights the process by which how a salmon develops from egg to adult fish.
Overall, it is clear that this fish must go through a cyclical progression of 9 stages in three distinct areas to regenerate itself in the sea.
With regards to the first area of its life cycle in the river, mature salmon moves back from the ocean to the river for spawning operations. Next, the eggs go through an incubation process before the emergence of freshwater rearing. It is at this stage that baby salmon moves to the estuary area for continuing rearing.
Looking at the last part of the cycle in the ocean, salmon now grows and is mature after migrating to rearing areas. It is only after the maturation step that this fish goes back to the river in order to complete the cycle of salmon regeneration. Now it begins the spawning process all over again.
