The line graph provides information about how many people in five different demographic groups living by themselves in Great Britain from the year 1996 to 2012.
Overall, it is noticeable that there was a vast number of elderly has to lived alone. In contrast, the figure of the youngest group (16-24) was also the lowest.
There two visible pattern can be seen clearly. The figures of 65-74 group was surprisingly lower than 25-44 years old as well as 45-64 years old. However, over the next six years, the numbers of these three group experienced a dramatic change. Although the 45-64 demographic group and the 25-44 started at the same set point, after 1998 the mid age group exceeded the 25-44 group at around 1.6 million and by the year 2004 it also transcended the oldest group with approximately 2 million people and wind up at just below 2 million. The 75+ years old group, who had the biggest number in the first year with about 1.8 million people, also followed the same upward pattern and stopped at 2 million in 2012.
The figure of the 65 to 74 and 16 to 24 years old group hardly shifted over the 16 years, with just below 1.5 million and 0.3 million people, respectively. Regarding the 25-44 years old demographic, whilst the number slightly increased and hit its peak at about 1.8 million in 2002, after that it gradually dropped to the same level with the outset.
