The line graph illustrates the amount of money used for research includes health, spaces, energy general science, and others by the United States government from 1980 to 2008. Units are measured in billion dollars.
Overall, the most significant amount of money was used for health research, and the least was general science.
From the beginning, the US government spend around 8 billion dollars on health research. While, after a slight reduction in 1984 the expenditure increased dramatically to about 23 billion dollars in 2004 before declining to approximately 18 billion dollars in 2008. Moreover, in 1980 only 3 billion dollars spent on the general science and in the following years, the graph shows a mild increase and remained steady from 2000 to 2008 with 5 billion dollars.
in 1980, the amount used for energy, space, and other research programs was around 5, 6, and 8 billion dollars respectively. Then the amount remained stable with 5 billion dollars for each research in the next eight years before climbing to around 8 billion dollars in 1996. Despite the spending on energy was decreased to 5 billion dollars in 2000, which rose to just over 7 billion dollars in 2008. Similarly, after 2004, the money for space energy escalated to just below 9 billion dollars compared to other research which plummeted to 5 billion dollars at the end of the period.
