The two charts show the expenditure of household in Hong Kong and Britain in 2000 in five different categories. As can be seen, Britain had the greatest proportion on other goods, that was 36%, while in Hong Kong was just 28%.
By contrast, in Hong Kong the greatest proportion was on housing, at 32%, compared to 18% in Britain. The next highest was on food at 27% in Hong Kong, but in Britain it was lower, at 22% for food. Another expenses in Britain was transport, at 17%, whereas in Hong Kong it was a lot smaller, at 9%. Both in Britain and in Hong Kong, the lowest percentage was clothing, 4% in Hong Kong and 7% for Britain.
