The pie charts elucidate the differences in spending habits made by British residents from 1971 to 2001.
As is observed from the pie charts, most of money was spent on petrol (36%) and the next highest expenditure was on furniture, which consists of 32% of total spending. The rests take up of 32% of total expenditure – 25% of those were derived from restaurants and 7% for computers.
In 2001, the expense on petrol and furniture decreased significantly by about 4% to reach at 8% each whereas the money spent on computers increased by 5%. Meanwhile, there were new categories introduced; cars and books. Car was newest category that most of people in UK spent on, which made up more than half of total spending. Expenses for food remained approximately the same level (about 25%) with one difference. In 1971, people preferred to eat at the restaurant and in 2001; people split up into two options- eat at home (14%) and eat at the restaurant (14%).
It is apparent that, the spending habits have been changed significantly by residents of UK for 30 years. In 1971, most of money was generated for petrol and furniture whereas by 2001, this changed and majority money was spent on cars and computers.
