The chart depicts the percentages of males and females attaining the highest qualifications for working age population in Wales in 2001/2002.
Overall, GCE A level, GCSE grade A*-C and No qualifications had larger proportions than the other qualifications.
The number of males with GCE A level or equivalent was at around 28%, which was significantly different from that of males, only 15%. By contrast, Females attaining GCSE grade A*-C or equivalent, at 29%, outnumbered considerably males, just 18%. Furthermore, males without any qualifications were 20% of the population which was lower in number than males, 24%.
Males and females were more equally represented in these three qualifications, that were, Degree, Higher education qualification and Other qualifications. The number of males and females getting degree or equivalent and other qualifications were both more than 10%, compared to the population with Higher education qualification, under 10%.
In Degree or equivalent qualification, there were nearly as many females (approximately 11%) as males (approximately 14%), which was also true of Other qualifications. This qualification was attained by 15% of males and 12% of females. Higher education which was the smallest percentage of all qualifications with males at 8% and females at 9%.
