Task 1: The bar chart shows the proportion of people aged over 65 years old in Germany, Canada, and the UK over a period of 50 years.
The bar chart compares the percentage of people aged 65 and above in three countries in 1980, 2000 and predictions for 2030.
Overall, it is apparent that the number of people in this age group rises gradually during the period and is expected to keep growing. Also noticeable is that Germany has the highest proportion of elderly people among the countries measured.
In 1980, 15% of the German population was older than 65, followed by the UK at around 14% and Canada at 10%. By 2000, a marginal increase across all nations can be observed. Those over 65 accounted for one-fifth of Germans, while an identical portion of 15% was recorded for both Canada and the UK.
The same upward trend is anticipated in all countries in 2030. However, Canada is projected to experience a surge of over 10%, overtaking the UK in the percentage of citizens aged over 65 by 5%. The figure for people in this age group in Germany is predicted to climb to a quarter in the same year, which remains the highest proportion.
