The diagram shows the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly.
The diagram gives information about the stages of the development of a Monarch butterfly.
In general, there are four stages in the life cycle of the butterfly, starting with eggs and continuing until becoming fully-grown adults.
At the first stage in the life cycle, the female butterfly chooses a specific plant on which to lay a massive number of eggs. After a few days, the eggs hatch and develop into tiny larva, they start growing and eating the leaf on which it was born. As they eat and their bodies quickly expand to full length and weight for a few months.
During the following stage in development, the larva creates covered with a cocoon for the molting stage. Within the chrysalis, the old body of parts of the larva undergoes a remarkable transformation to become beautiful parts that make up the butterfly. Their swings stretch and dry to help them fly. They begin looking for food and find a mate, and the new life cycle starts again.
