Growing traffic and congestion problems are two of the environmental worries of a country. These problems have some consequences which can be instantaneously felt, mainly in the big cities. The accumulation of vehicles injury, stress, accidents and pollution. Noise and air pollution due to the big fleet of vehicles is daily experienced by dwellers leading to consequences such as health problems. Someones think that the best way to solve this problem is increasing the petrol price. But would it really help?
Petrol e clearly the fuel that movies the majority of the transportation vehicles. Prices is always changing, most of the time for more. These increasing of the petrol prices cannot be seen as a method for a decreasing of the amount of vehicles and, consequently , cannot solve congestion problems neither growing traffic because there is other alternatives fuels like ethanol, for example. People need to use their cars for a lot of reasons and they will pay for it, mainly in the cities that public transportation is not in good conditions. Of course people get worried about the absurd increase of the petrol prices, but there is not much to do. Or use public transportation or change for an alternative fuel, although sometimes not compensate.
Poor quality of public transportation makes people opt for individual transport even though all these traffic problems. Due to the large amount of vehicles, some cities have created casters o decrease it movement at certain times. Awareness campaign also were done. But nothing of these solve the chaos of traffic. the use of motocycles also were encouraged but they pollute more than new vehicles and causes more accidents. Due to that, specialists defend the sustainable mobility. One of the changes would be the investment in mass transport.
To sum, i believe that other kinds of measures should be taken besides increasing the price of the petrol, like stimulate people to use other transports like bicycles, buses or even go to someplaces by walking.
