The graph below shows a typical American and a Japanese office.
The two maps give information about the layout of a typical office in Japan and America.
In general, it can be seen that there are different features and facilities between the two types of offices. Japanese offices tend to encourage collaboration at the workplace, while in America employees are independent at the workplace, and fully equipped with facilities.
In Japan, a large window is constructed at the back of the department and behind the department manager. Tables of members in the same teams are placed together with six small tables connecting with a section manager on each side. As a result, managers can easily observe the staff and monitor all the activities in the office.
The American workplace has two large windows which are set up to stretch across the Western and Eastern walls. The office is equipped with a printer copier, a storage room, and two conference rooms to the left of the room. The space of an American office is divided into separate cubicles with high walls to minimize distractions. The manager area includes two section managers and a department manager on the east side of the American office.
