The reading and lecture are both about the ways to cure severe effects of depression. The author of the writing states that medication has proven to be the best method to treat depression. The lecturer disagrees. He mention that medication does not fully recover drepression however it just make person feel relief in short run and he attacks each of the claim made in the article.
Firstly, the author begins by stating that depression occureowing to the chemical imbalance in the brain and can be treated by medication. The lecturer believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that depression does not causes merely with improper function of brain however there are many more factors that result depression such as death of soul mate, parents, brother, sister and so on. The bad effect of such experience cannot be cured by medication.
Secondly, according to the reading with medication depression can be dwindle and one can live their life to the fullest despite having depression. The speaker on other hand points out that clinical trial has been done and and it is found that medication diminish effect of depression merely for short time period. After some time, it again reppear and begin to cause problem to the patient.
Finally, the reading passage notes that therapy the another form of medication can utterly treat depression which is again just a myth is suggested. THe professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that with the pills the root of depression cannot be suppressed. Indeed, it can make effect less disruptive and patient even can carry day to day activities however, this will not work for long. In addition, the side effect of pills such as sleeping deprive, loss of appetite and so on can be more detrimental to the health.
As we can see, the author and the lecturer holds very conflicting views on the procedure to cure depression. The speaker effectively challenges the claims made in the article.
