The line graph depicts the proportion of Australian goods imported into four countries: Japan, the US, China, and India, between 1990 and 2012.
In general, looking at the graph, we can see that while China and India’s figures experienced an upward trend, the figures of the two remaining countries saw a downward trend. In addition, China’s figure was the most transformed.
Japan imported the largest percentage of Australian goods for most of the period given. Starting at the highest point at about 27% in 1990, Japan’s figure declined significantly to 20% in 1995, then had a steady drop to about 18% in the rest of the survey. Meanwhile, in the first ten years given, the US’s figure fluctuated between 9% and 11% before plummeting to 5% in 2010, then rising slightly to 7% in 2012.
In contrast, from 1990 to 2000, China’s figure increased gradually by 3% before surging to 25% in 2010, then reaching a peak of 28% in 2012. The percentage of Australian exports to India stayed unchanged at 3% from 1990 to 2000. It rose dramatically to 8% in 2010 before falling slowly to 5% in the last year.
