The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040
The provided line chart illustrates the number of citizens in four particular Asian countries, including Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. throughout a 50 year period from 1970 and the forecast of the 50 years following until 2040,
Overall, it is clear that while the Philippines and Thailand population witnessed a slight stability and predicted to rise after, the number of citizens in Malaysia and Indonesia sharply increased in those years surveyed and will continue to climb over the forecast next 50 years.
Analyzing the graph’s data, there is a similar trend among the urban population of Philippines and Thailand, while they started at different points, 30 percent and 10 percent respectively. For instance, there was a slight increase from 1970 and 1990 (Philippines population rose around 20 percent and Thailand one rose about 10 percent) and then remained stable between 1990 and 2020. After 30-year stability, both Philippines and Thailand citizen numbers are predicted to have risen and reached 55 percent and 50 percent until 2040.
On the other hand, the urban population of Indonesia and Malaysia experience a distinctly upward trend. Even until 1990, both of them accounted for a lower percentage of citizen numbers compared to Philippines and Thailand, with 40 percent for Malaysia and approximately 20 percent for Indonesia. Then, there is a sharp rise in the urban percentage of Indonesia and Malaysia surpassing the other two countries in 2000, which is predicted to continually increase to reach the point of nearly triple of the start points in Indonesia and Malaysia, 60 percent and 80 percent respectively in 2040.
