Over the past decades, education has become a controversial topic of discussion. While some individuals hold the opinion that homework should be abolished, others assume homework is of utter significance to pupils. Although the first view appears to be valid to some extent, I am strongly convinced by the latter view as home assignment can help students review lessons and become more disciplined.
Admittedly, giving students homework may lead to a number of trouble. First of all, doing homework can take up a large amount of pupils' time, leaving them no time to relax and unwind their mind, thereby being the precursor of intense tension and even serious mental problems in the long run. In others words, instead of boosting pupils' studying productivity, homework may backfire as it places an unnecessary burden on children. Another point to make is that homework is superfluous compared to the inherently heavy workload in the current school curriculum. In fact, beside being occupied with staying at school to attend classes, children also need to deal with massive knowledge of a myriad of disciplines which is believed to be overloaded for most of the kids. Giving extra homework to pupils, therefore, is likely to be counterproductive and pointless since students are already too engaged in studying.
On the other hand, I firmly contend that it is imperative to give children homework. firstly, home assignment acts as an incentive for students to review old lessons. Doing homework allows students to not only remember the knowledge they have learnt but also flexibly apply those theories in solving practical problems. In this way, students are able to fully comprehend comcepts behind new ideas as well as retain knowledge for a longer period of time. another essential point to consider is that homework instills a sense of discipline into young students. In order to complete assignment before the given deadline, students need to set a clear priority and stictly restrain themselves to overcome temptations. This process gradually helps develop strong self-control which surely contributes a signifcant role in their morality and their whole life in general.
In conclusion, despite requiring more time and seeming to be impractical at some points, home assignment should be part of children's education since it raises their studying effectiveness and cultivates their self-restraint.
