Writing task 1 People s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits

The bar chart illustrates the questionnaire results on the purchase and consumption of coffee and tea by people in five cities in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart) in four weeks.

Overall, in all cities except one, most people had gone to a cafe to buy coffee or tea in the last four weeks. Meanwhile, the purchase of fresh coffee was relatively unpopular in all five cities.

Melbourne was the city with the highest number of people electing to get their coffee/tea at cafes, at just under 65%, followed closely by Hobart with a number barely under that of Melbourne, and Sydney at just over 60%. The other two cities had relatively lower proportions with approximately 55% in Brisbane and half of the total participants in Adelaide who had gotten their beverages at cafes. In regards to Adelaide, however, it is interesting to note that participants preferred to get their beverages elsewhere rather than cafes, as is seen in all the other cities.

Instant coffee was the second most popular drink in all cities, with the exception of Adelaide, where it edged out cafe-bought drinks by a negligible amount at around 50%. The numbers are higher in Brisbane and Hobart (at around 55%), which were also more than in Melbourne and Sydney, where less than half of people had consumed instant coffee in the previous four weeks. On the other hand, fresh coffee was the least consumed with numbers less than 45% in all cities.
