Essay topics:

In many countries, children and teenagers are committing more and more crimes. What are the possible reasons for this? What can be done to reduce youth crime?

In recent years, juvenile delinquency has become increasingly prevalent throughout the world. While there are several factors of this associated with poor parental management, a number of steps can be taken to alleviate the situation.

Why are youth crime levels rising these days? With intense competition in the international job market due to mass immigration and population growth, many people feel compelled to work long hours and endure demanding working conditions to gain a competitive edge for promotions and salary increases, leading to prioritizing job responsibilities over spending time with their children. Given these circumstances, it comes as no surprise that many parents do not pay attention to their children, thereby failing to set clear boundaries and expectations for their children. This inconsistent discipline, in turn, can make way for children to turn to crime under the influence of peer pressure or negative social circles. Gone are the days when parents would teach their children to behave themselves and stay away from breaking the law, as today’s fierce competition to achieve a higher standard of living is forcing them to overwork and allocate little to no time to interact with their children to help them distinguish between right and wrong.

To tackle this growing issue of juvenile delinquency, both governments and parents play a crucial role. Parents with children should be encouraged to strike a work-life balance through remote work or flexible schedules. In this regard, governing bodies should offer flexible working hours and remote working options for parents to provide them with a chance to spare some time for family-bonding activities with their children. Only through spending quality time with their children can parents guide them toward becoming law-abiding individuals. Providing after-school activities like sports, art, and clubs for children to keep them engaged is another viable solution. When parents cannot devote some time for their children, they should, at least, prevent their offspring from joining in criminal groups or acquiring illegal behavior by allowing them to engage in activities they enjoy in their leisure time. Not only will this ensure they learn useful skills like problem-solving and decision-making, which can be helpful in their future lives, but it can also deter them from engaging in antisocial behavior or forming ties with delinquent peers.

To conclude, although parental neglect and negative peer influence are the primary drivers of rising youth crime, this issue can be effectively addressed through joint efforts by both parents and governments. Encouraging flexible work arrangements and remote working options for parents, along with providing engaging leisure activities for children, can significantly reduce the likelihood of juvenile delinquency in the long term.
