The text and lecturer offer two opposing views one the disadvantages of Communal online encyclopedias. While the reading passage lists some factors such as the lack of academic credit, the alternation of data by hackers, and the wide variety of its resources beyond the academic information as the negative sides of the online encyclopedias, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information in the text.
First of all, the professor refutes the facts of rare academic adherence which in the passage is named as one of the main disadvantages. The lecturer states that it is an arduous task to find an accurate resource without the errors. Besides, these mistakes are common in the traditional encyclopedias too; however, since their printed form they do not change or edit for decades. On the other hand, the online form can update faster than the traditional form.
Next, the passage mentions to unscrupulous users who threaten encyclopedias’ validity. Inasmuch as, they can easily alter their data without others' awareness. The lecturer doubts the truth of this claim. As he asserts there is an especial format for the information which depicts the validity of data. In addition, there are expert editors who observe the information of this source and whenever they face inaccurate information they edit it.
Finally, the professor argues that the points of broad, depth information about the various issues as the negative part of the online encyclopedias. Meanwhile, the passage presumes that they do not merely cover the educational or intellectual data, and they focus on the trivial and invaluable information. Based on the lecturer's perspective, the traditional sources have the limited volume to cover whole information. In the sake of this restriction, the basic concentration was about the scientific information. However, online sources do not have this drawback and they can address different issues for various interest. As a result, this can be considered as the advantage of this kind of sources.
The professor effectively challenges the claim made in the article.
