Refute-and-persuade is an advertising technique that companies first admit the problems of their products and then refute the problems. The professor uses an example to illustrate the technique. In the example, a professional cook is talking about pots and pans of a company. The cook begins by stating that the pots and pans are indeed very expensive and other companies’ pots and pans cost less. But then the cook starts to explain why it is still worthwhile to buy the pots and pans. She says that the company can provide a life-warranty. If there is anything wrong with the pots and pans, the company will replace them for free. So this helps save customers’ money in the long run.
