In this set of materials, the reading states that the invation of zebra mussel cannot be stopped and they have real danger for freshwater fish in all of North America and brings up three different hyptheses to explain the undangerousness of zebra mussel. However, the lecture finds all the ideas incorrect and he believes there are some way to control zebra mussels and in it is possible if we use effective ways and he provides some evidence to support his claim.
First of all, the author of the passage claims that the zebra mussels attach theirslf to ship's bottom and use ballast water to migrate to North America. In contrast, the lecture argues that people can empty the ballast water out of the ocean when they arrive to the beach rather then pour them in the ocean.
Furthermore, it is mentioned in the reading passage that they can confront against any difficulties in the new habitats and become dominat because they have good reproduction and there is no predators to kill zebra mussels. On the contrary, the lecture contends that the zebra mussel has not any predators only in the begining, but the habitat changes over time and some animals eat zebra mussels now.
Finally, the author is of the opinion that the zebra mussel causes the decrease in the number of fishs because they eat fish's foods. Conversly, the lecture explains that the zebra mussels have negative effect only on some fishes, but they have positive influence on other fishes which nutrient from the traces of the zebra mussels.
