The lecture apparently disproves what is argued in the reading material. According to the passage, scientists mention some causes that are reasponsible for the Little Ice Age. The professor talks about the same issue. However, he thinks none of these reasons make sence. Then he gives several evidences to demonstrate his statement.
For one thing, while the passage mentions that cooling may have been caused by the disruption of Gulf Stream due to the melted glaciers, the professor rebuts this by saying that this reason is out of date. Because the melted glaciers can only affect Europen and America. However, actually harf of the earth's temperature declines, including South Africa.
Moreover, contrary to the claim that volcanic eruption could have caused the Little Ice Age, the professor insists that because eruption on that level can cause sunlight blocked by the ash, snow turnning to gray, there will be some records indicate these changes. However, no reports have been found yet, so the volcanic eruption cannot create large enough gas or ash into atmosphere which decreases the global temperatures.
Finally, the passage argues that greenhouse gas decreasing plays a role in the Little Ice Age. And the professor disagrees the idea by saying that there is just not enough time for the cause to make influences on the climate change. Because human population grows fast, the forests have to be cut down for agriculture. Then the carbon dioxide level in the atmoshpere will raise again. This cannot explain the long period of the Little Ice Age.
