The article claims that ethanol fuel, which made from plants like corn and sugar cane, can not be a good replacement of gasoline and provide three reasons of support. In contrast, the professor express that ethanol fuel can be an alternative to gasoline, hence he refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that the use ethanol fuel can not solve the biggest environmental problems, which is called global warming, because this fuel produce carbon dioxide into atmosphere. On contrary, the professor opposes this point with saying that ethanol can ameliorates this environmental problem. For producing ethanol we need to grow up planets that they absorb carbon dioxide, which is released by burning ethanol fuel.
Second, the passage mentions that producing ethanol from corn reduces the food source for farm animals. Conversely, the lecturer refutes this matter by expressing that ethanol fuel is produce from a certain materials that we can use other kinds of plants to make ethanol fuel. So, we never face the lack of foods for farm animals.
In the third place, the text expresses that ethanol fuel can not be economical without the government’s subsidies. In contrast, the speaker says that if we increase the production of ethanol fuel, its price will be decreased. Hence, ethanol fuel can compete with gasoline on price, eve without the government's aids.
