Both the paragraph and lecture is discussing about the decline in reading of less literature and its effect. Paragraph points the people as the reason for the decline in the literature reading. Where as lecture casts doubt on the explanation mentioned in the paragraph.
Firstly, paragraph states that reading of less literature leads to declination of the intellectual level like missing imagination quality, understanding of language and so many benefits. Contrary to this explanation, lecture says that reading less literature is not signifying the intellectual level. Books on science, history and politics turning into novels which do not have that quality to get benefits.
Secondly, paragraph shows that people are involving in television, music, reading web pages and reading poorly written novels instead of reading quality literature which leads to the reduction in the culture quality. Where as lecture states that there are plenty of culture material is available but in different forms like in better songs and good movies. Only forms of expression has been changed to get benefits. Better songs and good movies are better in understanding culture values in compare to novels and old poems.
Thirdly, paragraph states that number of good writers are decreasing because of less audience and getting less supports from the lead publishers. While lecture says that authors are getting less support not because of audience and publishers but due to their own faults. Writers are providing materials which is hard to understand in compare to earlier times.
