TPO-44 - Integrated Writing Task
A European coin belonged to explorers called Norse have been found in the state of Maine in United States. Some archeaologists for few reasons believe that the coin is not genuine and does not belong to the european Norse explorers, thus, someone has put it there to miss lead them; however, the speaker says that many archeaologists consider the coin to be genuine and refutes each reason of the passage.
The article writes that Norse settlements lived very far away from the place that the coin was dicovered for the first reason. This suggests that there is no connection between native americans and Norse people. In contrast, the professor says that many stuff that have been founded in that area come from far distances because native people liked to travel and bring back valuable things to their site.
Second, the article points out that no other coins have been found at the sites that were occupied by Norse explorers, so Norse did not bring coin to north america, but the speaker says that the Norse did not stay there for ever, so when they returned to their own lands; they packed all of their stuffs and brought back with themselves.
Finally, the article says that the Norse did not bring coin with themselves because coin was useless there; however, the lecturer says that native people liked to have beautiful things like jewerly, so maybe the Norse traded coins with them because native people considered the silver coin to be beautiful.
