The lecture and the reading both discuss the altruistic behavior inhuman and meerkat. While the reading states that meerkat guards it's group keeping itself in a great danger, the lecture refutes this, saying that it doesn't keep itself in a danger rather other group members are in great danger.
First of all, the reading claims that the meerkat that guards it's group always stay in hunger which is very altruistic behavior. However, the lecture argues that it has eating habit before standing a guard. Furthermore, the professor states that when it stands a guard, it is always full of stomach.
In addition, the reading makes the argument that the meerkat gives an alarm when hawk approach to it. It gets nothing but put itself in a great danger protecting other. The lecture counter's this point by stating that it rather keep in danger to other members. According to the professor, when it gives an alarm, other members gather together looking for food.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that human beings have an altruistic behavior for which they share food even with strangers as well. The reading says that when people are going to die, they donate their organs before their death which is an altruism. The lecture refutes this claims by pointing out, this donating behavior isn't completely altruistic behavior. Moreover, the professor says, these kinds of activities gives an appreciation and a feeling of self-worth.
