The reading and the lecture are discussing the hypothesis that a certain type of dinosaurs migrated during the winter for to warmer areas. The reading supports this claim and provides three reasons, however, the lecture casts doubt on all these claims as follows.
Firstly, the author of the reading mentions that these animals depended mainly on plants as a source of food, so they have to migrate during the winter since the whole area is covered with snow and no vegetation left to feed on. The lecturer, on the other hand, contends that plants grew in large quantities during the summer that there would be available remains of these vegetation, which could provide the dinosaurs with the required food during the winter.
Secondly, the article argues that the fossils evidences suggest that the dinosaurs lived in herds. Living in herds supports the notion of migration of the animals. In contrast, the professor rebuts this hypothesis by stating that many other animals, such as the Elk, live in herds but they do not migrate, The animals usually live in herds for other purposes like protection from predators.
Thirdly, the reading posits that the dinosaurs were able to move in a good speed which helped them to migrate easily during the winter. The lecturer, however, rejects this claim by stating that even if the adult dinosaurs were able to move easily, but the juveniles or the babies of the animals did not have the ability to move such distance which made it impossible for the adult ones to migrate because they can not leave their younger animals behind them and leave.
