The diagram shows how geothermal energy is used to produced electricity.
The given diagram illustrates the conversion of electricity from using geothermal energy. Overall, there are 5 main steps in the process, starting with injecting cold water and ending with electricity is being generated.
The process begins with water, which is cold, is being pumped down a 4.5-kilometer pipe into the injection well deep in the ground. Then the water, following the flow, goes through a space called geothermal zone. The zone is designed with hot rocks surrounding it, as well as lying parallel to the ground surface. After flowing through the hot rocks zone, the water, which is now hot, reaches the production well, the last stage underground, before being pumped back up to the ground surface through a pipe the same length as the cold water pipe.
Up on the surface, the hot water reaches the condenser, which turns hot water into steam. The steam is led through a small pipe into the generating zone. Here, the steam rotates the turbine, which in turn, powers the generator to produce electricity. In the final step, electricity is transferred to a geothermal power plant, ready to be utilized.
