There has been many debate among whether the humpbacks navigate using stars or not. The lecture says that the humpbacks are migrating by using other ways rather than the stars. However, the reading argues that the humpbacks are migrating by using the stars and enumerates three reasons of support.
The first point of dispute is that humpbacks are intelligent enough to use stars as a navigator while they are migrating. The lecture asserts that there is no connection between humpbacks intelligent and between their ability to use the stars. For example ,ducks are not so intelligent and they are able to migrate as well. However, the reading argues that humpbacks brains have a high degree of complexity of intelligent, that is why they could migrate by using the stars.
Another controversial issue is that the humpbacks navigate in straight-line. The lecture says that humpbacks move in straight lines because the have some internal biomagnified force in their body sensitive to the earth magnetic field, that help them to move in straight line while they are migrating .But, the reading disagrees by saying that the humpbacks move in straight lines because they are orientated by some external feature like stars.
The final point of dispute is that the humpbacks have an unusual behavior called spy hoppy. The lecture says that the some other animals like sharks have the same behavior and they do not migrate or even look at the stars. Sharks do spy hoppy in the morning while there are no stars in the sky. Yet, the reading contradicts this point saying that humpbacks are doing this behavior to help them looking at the sky while they are migrated from one place to another.
