Overall, it can be seen that while the proportion of dependent and non-dependent children exhibited downward trends, the rest experienced an upward trend.
In detail, dependent children stood at just over a half (52%) in 1971, followed by a gradual dip in the remaining years, to finish at approximately one-third (36%) in 2007. Despite being just under a fifth (19%) in 1971, 'no children' between 1971 and 2001, however, witnessed a mild swell to 25%, where it (25%) then levelled off until the end (2007). Surprisingly, 'lone parent' and 'one person' were almost identical in the orientation (increasing) throughout the period. 'One person' soared doubled to 12% (2007) from 6% (1971), whereas the final year stayed three times higher than first year (12% vs 4%) as regards 'lone parent'.
Turning to non-dependent children, there was only a marginal reduction, which meant that the figure declined from 10% (1971) to 9% (2007).
