task 1: the number of marriages
The first bar chart compares the number of marriage and divorces in US residents from 1970 to 2000. The second chart illustrates adult Americans in terms of marital status in the years 1970 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear from that the number of marriage was higher than that of divorces over the 30-year period. Additionally, divorced accounted for the lowest percentage of adult Americans in both years.
the number of marriage began at 2.5 million and remained stable in next decade. At the same time, the figure for divorces was much lower. Only at 1 million. Despite some fluctuations, the number of divorces unchanged at the end of the period.
However, Marriages saw a gradual decline by 0.5 million, ending at exactly 2 million in 2000.
Looking more closely at the second chart, we can see that the percentage of adult Americans married was highest in 1970, compared with never married and widowed, at about 15% and nearly 10% respectively. Only approximately 1% was the figure for divorced in 1970. in 2000, although the proportion of marriage fell to 60%, it also was the highest number of the whole bar chart. Meanwhile, never married and divorce witnessed a rise while the percentage of widowed decreased to roughly 5% at the end of the period.
