task 1: marriage and divorce
The first bar chart compares the number of marriage and divorces in America from 1970 and 2000. The second chart illustrates the marital status of adult Americans between 1970 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear from the two bar chart that the number of marriage was by far highest in 1970. Additionally, divorced accounted for the lowest percentage of adults.
In 1970, the number of marriage began at 2.5 million and then remained stable at exactly 2.5 million in 1980. At the same time in 1980, the figure for divorces accounted for the lowest number with only 1 million. Despite some fluctuations, the figure of marriage decreased sharply throughout the period, ending at 2 million in 2000.
There was only over 10% of the status of never married compared with 70% of married in 1970. The figure for widowed was lower at under 10% at the same time in 1970, whereas the figure for divorced made up the lowest number with only above 1% in 1970. In 2000, the status of never married stood at 20%. Additionally, the figure for married saw a sharp rise to 60%. however, there was a dramatic decline to about 7% in the widowed and saw only under 10% of the divorced.
