The line chart demonstrates per capita figures of CO2 emission in four countries, which include United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between four decades spanning 1967 to 2007.
Overall, there were general increases of CO2 emissions per individual in Italy and Portugal, while the downwards trends can be observed in United Kingdom and in Sweden between the forty years.
The highest increase was in Portugal, which saw a rise of 4 metric tonnes, from around 1 to 5 metric tonnes during these four decades. Started from approximately 4 metric tonnes in 1997, the emission In Italy almost climbed to 8 metric tonnes in 1997, when a plateau happened.
Although United Kingdom’s emission was always the highest in each decade, a relatively steady decrease was represented, from 11 metric tonnes in 1967 to 9 tonnes in 2007. On the contrary, the emission in Sweden was unstable. The figure was 9 metric tonnes per head in 1967, reached a peak at over 10 metric tonnes in the next decade, and then dramatically drop to 5 metric tonnes in the next three decades.
