1 . Woven baskets characterized by a particular
distinctive pattern have previously been found only in the
immediate vicinity of the prehistoric village of Palea and
therefore were believed to have been made only by the
Palean people. Recently, however, archaeologists
discovered such a "Palean" basket in Lithos, an ancient
village across the Brim River from Palea. The Brim River
is very deep and broad, and so the ancient Paleans
could have crossed it only by boat, and no Palean boats
have been found. Thus it follows that the so-called
Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean.

This article is an argument about a kind of old baskets. This baskets had only found in the immediate vicinity of the prehistoric village of Palea which is called Woven baskets. Nowadays, however, it has been found in another ancient village not far from Palean. Archaeologists determined that the Woven baskets are not only made by Palean people. But, because of the wrong assumption and unwarranty evidences, I am sure that this conclusion is not right.

First, we can not assure the "Palean" baskets discovered by archaeologists in Lithos recently is the same thing with the Woven baskets which were found in Palea. They might be similar or has the same style or color, but they might be some different. We cannot say two of them are same seriously without more evidences.

Second, both Lithos and Palea are nearby the Brim River which is from Palea. Something of Palea could be take to Lithos by the river when there is a flood。Something could emerge on the water and been pushed to another side of the river. So, the baskets might be take to Lithos by accident. It stay at Lithos, but was not been made by people of Lithos.

The most important, no Palean boats have been found cannot argue that there was not boats on the river many years ago. Our ancestors could only build boats by wood. So, most of this boats or all of them could not leave to now. Palean and Lithos are all nearby the river, so they need to communicate or cooperate to each other. Indeed, a wood boat is a the most useful tool which is also easy to make. Baskets should be a necessary tool of a boat or an primary goods to each of the two village.

In conclusion, although archaeologists have found such a "Palean" baskets in Lithos, we cannot assure that it was made by people of Lithos. The discovery cannot follows that the so-called Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean.
