Society should make efforts to save endangered species only if the potential extinction of those species is the result of human activities.

Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position.

Homo sapiens or the human beings are the most gifted creatures by the nature, when it comes to the intelligence level. Among several species both present and extinct, none has come to developing the intelligence level which the humans have achieved. With their superior intelligence levels, humans are the only beings who have the ability not only to use the earth's environment for their purpose but to modify it whenever it helps them to achieve their ends. In his development, man has ruthlessly played with the nature. Pollution and deforestation have been the evil side-effects of industrilisation. In the quest of taming the nature to meet his ends, humans have modified the existing natural habitats so much, that many less fortunate species ahve become extinct while many are on the verge of extinction. There is an effort made by most of the nations' societies today to prevent the endangered species from becoming extinct. Since, extinction is a part of natural selection as well, there is an argument that Society should make efforts to save endangered species only if the potential extinction of those species is the result of human activities. However, such a policy is neither ethical by human moral standards nor easy to implement as is described below.

Nature has an extremely delicate balance. A small change in one the characteristic of any habitat's environment can briong about extreme side-effects which can be as difficult to predict beforehand. If a species is identified to be endangered, how quickly and unambigously it can be determined that the cause of its extinction is not some direct or indirect human activity?Natural sciences have made a lot of progress over the last few decades, however still they are a long way in understanding the earth's enviroment in its entirety and predict the effects which can be caused by any hmuman activity which even slighty changes it. Researches have shown that, human activities can result in many indirect causes which are potentially harmful for other species to co-exist.Vultures are not a direct food or game humans. However, with the increase in pesticides and other pollutants in soil and water, many animals die due to chronic poisioning effect of such substances. The scavengers feeding on such carcasses suffer the same fate. Thsu we see, that a decrease in number of scavengers is indirect the result of human activities. Same can be true for other species as well, though the connection to human activities may yet to be found.

man has been gifted with superior intelligence.Being the smartest and strongest in Earth's fraternity he has the moral responsibility towards protection of weaker and less fortunate species. Each species has its role to play in nature and no other species how so ever strong or intelligent it is, should get to decide another species's fate. Each specie is important not only for its aesthetic value but also scientifically. By protecting the species on the verge of exrtinction, scientists can do unravel the mysteries surrounding natural selection and evolution.

If nature by its own selection process has decided that a specie has to become extinct, humans with all their intelligence will have a Herculean task in saving it. So, the societies should make an effort protect all the endangered species, leaving the decision of extinction in the hands of Mother Nature.

Hi essayE-rater,
This essay in my view was digressing from the topic of discussion. It asks "Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take."
But in this essay the arguments never consider his views on policy, but was limited to effects of human activities.

Also, it has asked "consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position". Which is never taken into account.

Are you only concerned with grammatical checks or score is based on the cogency of the essay which is based on question asked. kindly clarify, because in my opinion the later part is given more importance in GRE like exams.
