In some countries, young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
The opportunity to get successful career is one of the most motivating factors which make people study. In some countries after graduating from high school, the young take one year off to work or travel before starting to continue their education again. Whether this type of break is beneficial or not is quite debatable. In my opinion, this option has its own supporting and opposing arguments, so before drawing a quick conclusion, this thought needs to be discussed.
To begin with, I would like to highlight some disadvantages of starting to work immediately after getting a secondary school diploma. First of all, after stopping studying, it is very difficult to start doing that again, since people find it extremely challenging to readapt to the academic environment. This fact leads those people not to feel like to get education again considering that, they are already capable of supporting themselves financially to some extent.
Nevertheless, quick enter into working sphere provides people with useful experience. As a result, differently from the ones that don’t work before entering the universities, they become acquainted with some aspects of jobs by and large, thus they make their major choice much more wisely. At this point, that sort of working or traveling experience becomes the first step of the prosperous future career.
Furthermore, taking a year’s pause between studies arouses young people’s opportunities to begin to make living and by this way, they can save enough money to fund their further studies. That is significantly essential for poor people so as to get education in conditions that they wish.
To sum it up, it’s clear that, there is no ideal, completely perfect option when making most vital decisions about our future and above discussed opinion also has some negative sides. However, taking all the mentioned advantages of it into account, we can say that we wouldn’t regret provided we gave that choice priority over the counter one.
