Overall, Australian females are generally more active than males, outperforming males in five out of six age groups. Those aged 65 and over demonstrated virtually equivalent interest in being physically active. Males belonging to 35 to 44 years of age group were the least active.
53.3 percent of females between 45 to 54 years were the most engaged in physical activity just ahead of females aged 55 to 64 that accounted for 53% of those partaking in physical fitness activity. There was only a marginal difference of 0.4% between the participating men and women aged 65 and over, with 47.1% of men and 46.7% of female.
The largest proportion of physically active male belonged to the age category of 15 to 24 at 52.8% as compared to 47.7% for physically active female of the same age group.
