The line graph illustrates the average rate of carbon dioxide emitted per individual measured in metric tonnes, in four countries over half a century from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, whereas the figures for Carbon emissions dropped considerably for the UK and Sweden, the opposite trend is observed for Italy and Portugal. However, despite the decrease, numbers for the UK reports the highest of all.
Focusing on the UK and Sweden, the former began the period at the highest of CO2 emitted at 11 metric tonnes, the latter started at just below 9 metric tonnes. Regarding the United Kingdom, there was a leveling off for the first decade, after which the data show a gradual decrease to a low point of just above 8 metric tonnes by the end of the period. Similarly, In Sweden, after an initial growth in the rate of emission to about 10 metric tonnes, this then plunged to around 5 metric tonnes in 2007.
In contrast, with regards to Itlay and Portugal, despite emissions rising in both the nations, their numbers began at as low as 4 and 1 metric tonnes respectively. Moreover, the figures for Portugal rose as much as five times its initial to reach 5metric tonnes, which is also the lowest for Sweden. Meanwhile, Italy's emissions doubled to around 8 metric tonnes by the end of the studied period.
