The bar chart illustrates the proportion of weekly income earned by families in one country was used for different kind of purposes in the year 1968 and 2018.
Overall, it is clear that the majority of income was spent for food in 1968, while families in 2018 tended to use money for leisure. Another noteworthy observation is that fuel and power was at the bottom of the list in both 2 years.
In term of 1968, 35% of income was used to buy food, which was higher than the others of the list. Ranking at second position, housing had the same figure with clothing and footwear, 10%. Finally, the share of money used for other purposes fluctuated from 6% to 9%.
Regarding 2018, standing at the top of the list, leisure accounted for nearly 23%, which was followed by housing, approximately 20%. Meanwhile, people spent 17% of their income for food in this period, which was 3% higher than those in transport. Finally, the income for other purposes was under 5%, except for household goods, 8%.
