The bar graph illustrates data on sports that people in New Zealand were likely to participate in most in 2002.
Overall, the proportion of boys and girls was similar in athletics, basketball, and tennis. However, that distribution in cricket, martial arts, netball, soccer, swimming, and other sports was not equivalent.
The percentage of girls in athletics is about 4%, compared to 3% of boys. Basketball was a little more preferred by boys than by girls. The figures were slightly over 6% and 5% respectively. Likewise, tennis also attracted boys a bit more than girls. Boys’ involvement in this activity was nearly 8%, whereas the figure for girls was about 7%.
Around 25% of participants in netball were girls, while the proportion of boys in this sport was nearly 0%. In contrast, the figure for boys in soccer was almost 5 times higher than their female counterparts, at just under 25% and approximately 5% respectively. Additionally, cricket also saw a significant difference between the number of boys (10%) and girls (slightly over 0%).
