The bar chart provides the proportion of boys and girls who participated in different sport activities in New Zealand in 2002.
Overall, it is clear that there were significant differences between the percentage of boys and girls who took part in most of these sports. It had, however, the similar proportion of those who played basketball and tennis.
For girls, the highest was 27% of netball and the slightly lower was those who enjoyed swimming with 23% approximately. There were roughly 7% and 8% of girls played basketball and tennis respectively as well as the figures which were slightly lower than boys for both sports. While there were 5% for girls participated in athletics and 6% for soccer, less than 5% took part in cricket and marital arts. Lastly, among other sports totalled around 10% for girls participation.
By contrast, among boys, the sport with the highest participation was soccer with 25% . Only 1% and nearly 14%, 4% those enjoyed netball, swimming and athletics respectively, the figures which were lower than girls for these sports. It was 11% of those played cricket .There were 8% and 9% participated in basketball and tennis ,respectively, which were slightly higher than girls for both sports. Finally, it was approximately 18% of boys played other activities.
