The bar chart represents the estimated world illiteracy rates by region and by gender in six regions listed for the year of 2000.

The gender indicator illustrates that female has bigger rates in illiteracy than male. south asia is where by the far the most highest illiteracy rates for both female and male at 55% and 35% respectively. arab states comes next with approximately 52% for female and 29% for male, which followed closely by africa at 48% for female and slightly bigger rates than arab for male at 31%. East asia rates dipped half to 20% for female an 9% for male. Meanwhile, Latin America illiteracy rates is roughly the same for both gender. developed countries lie last with approximately less than 3% illiteracy rates.

To summarize, world illiteracy rates vary for each regions and genders. roughly speaking, africa, arab and south asia have higher rates above the average, whereas the developed countries, Carribean, and Oceania have the lower rates under the average.
