It is noticeable from the chart that traveling to work was the most popular reason for trips for men, while women mainly made trips for shopping. The opposite trends were seen in day trip figures.
In 2007, the number of men traveling to work was highest, reaching appropriately 325 million, while the figure for women was significantly lower, at nearly 200 million. Shopping and visiting friends were the second most popular purposes of trips made by men, with fewer than 200 million people throughout the period shown. Meanwhile, around 280 and 200 million females went shopping and visited friends, respectively.
The same pattern can be seen for the number of men and women who made trips for sports or entertainment, at nearly 140 million people, compared to under 40 million males or females who chose day trips.
