The chart given illustrates the changes in the amount of owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales over the 93-year period from 1918 to 2011.
As can be seen from the chart, while the households in owned accommodation experienced a upward trend, the amount of rented accommodation decreased significantly over the period. Moreover, the year 1918 witnessed the most households rented and the least housesholds in owned. However, it was the 2001 that saw the largest proportion of households rented and the smallest proportion of households in.
In particular, the ratio of accommodation in owned experienced a steady increase over the period, except for the 10-year time from 2001 to 2011, which witnessed a moderate drop from nearly 70% to 64 %. The percentage of people owning a house soared from 24% to nearly 70%, 3 times fold between 1918 and 2001. In contrast, the percentage of residents renting a house plunged from 78% to just over 30% over the period from 1918 to 2001. And finally, it had a insignificant increase of 3⁰% in the end of the period, from 2001 to 2011.
