The chart below shows the unemployment rate and the number of people leaving Ireland from 1988 to 2008

The chart depicts the figures of Irelish emigrants and the propotion of unemployment in Ireland from 1988 to 2008.

Overall, it is apparent that both the number of people leaving Ireland and unemployment rate witnessed a downward trends. Additionally, there was a steep fall in the percent of people who did not have jobs.

In 1988, starting at 60000 emigrants, during next 14-year period, the figures declined dramatically before falling the lowest point at approximately 25000. Afterwards, it rose competitively to 50000 in 2008 which was just lower than the start point 10000 migrants.

During the same period, the rate of unemployed reached its peak at the beginning point with about 18 % , then, it dropped slightly to exactly 13 % before rising again at approximately 16 %. The figures continued to slump in the next years until 2000, thereafter, it maintained the same level and reached 6% at the end of the survey.
