The chart shows the information about salt intake in the US in 2000.

The bar chart illustrates how much salt being eaten by Americans 20 years ago.
Overall, while both under 6-year-old sexes ate the lower number of salt than that of the recommended adult salt intake, people from six to over 60 consumed at least 2500 milligrams of salt in this year. In addition, male always had a higher salt intake than female in any age group.
As can be seen from the bar chart, the highest salt being consumed by male in 2000 belonged to the 20-39 aged group, which accounted for over 4500 milligrams. Next came the 12-19 aged men, at approximately 4300 milligrams, which was followed by people from 40 to 60, at around 3900 milligrams. Consequently, the smallest number of salt being eaten by under 6-year-old men was nearly 200 milligrams smaller than the recommended one (2500 milligrams).
Regarding female in the US, the figures for the salt intake of female from 6 to 60 years old were marginal, which were about 3000 milligrams. Also, female, those aged over 60 consumed the same number of salt as that of the recommended salt intake for adults, at exactly 2500 milligrams. Besides, this figure was twice as high as that of the under 6 aged groups, at just over 1300 milligrams.
